Laurence Thiffault

I am a passionate basket maker. I firmly believe that basketry is a medium that deserves to be practiced more widely, just as humans have done since time immemorial.

In my studio, located at the heart of Espace Saule et Garance in Sutton, I create a wide range of objects using plant materials that I grow or responsibly harvest in the wild. I work primarily with willow, a strong and versatile material that allows for great creativity. From baskets to baby cradles, these objects are timeless and made to endure. Trained mainly in Europe with master basket makers, my practice is contemporary and reflects a style that blends tradition with modernity. I also create environmentally friendly objects for funerary rites, including coffins and urns.
