My art has a playful inquisitive quality. Though all my art making relates to my human experience, my gestural work with clay represents the push and pull of my own life. Its very nature is call and response, with each gesture demanding a further commentary, reaction or negation.
Through this process I playfully explore themes of humans and nature, depicting both animals and the human figure. I leave the process open to accidents and letting each piece suggest its own journey. For this reason, I particularly enjoy the chaos and unpredictability of the Raku firing process.
I am always experimenting with something: recipes, techniques, scale... The unexpected is always exciting!
